Green stands for balance and harmony, growth, renewal and rebirth. Green village prorgamme aims at wholesome development of the rural areas by addressing ecological, economic, and equity issues in the villages. The programme aims to bring about changes through community level social regulations, co-operation, and its proactive participation for a green, clean, toxic free, low carbon, self reliant, eco resilient rural india. Following is an outline of the mandate for the programme. The initial phase focused on entry point activities like tree plantation, organic farming, awareness and rapid appraisals of the villages to evolve appropriate need based programmes.
Through the programme 2,34,243 saplings were planted in the initial phases. Subsequently CGR focused on the promotion of sustainable development in Silarpalli a small village near Kalwakurthy to make it a model village. Efforts are underway to transform this small, obscure habitat into true green and serene humans cape like an old epic hamlet where happiness and progress entwine, both go together. There are about 7000 plants of 300 species in the village. An emphasis was laid on green cover, organic farming, natural resources management, water sanitation and hygiene and renewable energy to work.
